Remote Education Provision: Information for Parents
At our school, we are committed to ensuring that all pupils can continue to access a high-quality education when they are unable to attend school in person. Our established 1:1 iPad programme means that pupils have access to the technology they need to continue learning effectively at home through platforms such as Showbie and Learning by Questions (LbQ).
This information explains what parents and carers can expect from our remote education provision.
The Remote Curriculum: What Is Taught to Pupils at Home
What should my child expect from immediate remote education in the first day or two of pupils being sent home?
In the event of a class, year group, or whole-school closure, pupils will be able to access learning immediately through their school-issued iPad.
Work will be provided through Showbie and may include:
- English, Mathematics and foundation subject activities
- Instructional videos from teachers
- Reading activities
- Learning by Questions (LbQ) assignments
- Retrieval practice and revision tasks
- Links to approved educational resources
This ensures that learning can continue with minimal disruption while longer-term remote teaching arrangements are put in place.
Following the first few days of remote education, will my child be taught broadly the same curriculum as they would if they were in school?
Yes.
Our aim is for pupils to access the same curriculum remotely as they would in school wherever possible. Teachers will continue to follow the school's curriculum plans so that pupils remain in line with the learning taking place in their year group.
Some adaptations may be necessary where particular resources, equipment or practical activities cannot be replicated at home. For example:
- Practical science investigations may be adapted.
- Physical Education activities may focus on fitness and personal challenges.
- Art and Design activities may use materials commonly available at home.
- Collaborative classroom activities may be modified for independent completion.
The priority will always be to ensure pupils continue to receive a broad, balanced and ambitious curriculum.
Remote Teaching and Study Time Each Day
We expect pupils to engage in learning for the following amount of time each day:
This includes teacher-directed activities, independent learning, reading and completion of tasks through Showbie and LbQ.
Accessing Remote Education
How will my child access online remote education?
All pupils are provided with access to:
Showbie
Showbie is our primary learning platform. Teachers use Showbie to:
- Set assignments
- Share learning resources
- Upload instructional videos
- Receive completed work
- Provide feedback
- Communicate learning expectations
Learning by Questions (LbQ)
LbQ provides interactive learning, particularly in Mathematics and Science, enabling teachers to:
- Monitor understanding in real time
- Identify misconceptions quickly
- Personalise learning activities
- Provide immediate feedback
Additional Platforms
Teachers may also direct pupils to approved educational websites and applications to support learning and curriculum delivery.
If my child does not have digital or online access at home, how will you support them?
Our 1:1 iPad programme significantly reduces barriers to accessing remote learning. Every pupil is provided with a school-issued iPad to support learning both in school and at home.
Where families experience difficulties accessing online learning, support may include:
- Technical support from school staff
- Assistance with device issues
- Provision of printed learning materials where necessary
- Alternative methods for submitting completed work
Parents experiencing difficulties should contact the school office as soon as possible so that support can be arranged.
How Will My Child Be Taught Remotely?
Remote education may include a combination of:
- Teacher-created instructional videos
- Pre-recorded lessons and explanations
- Activities and assignments uploaded to Showbie
- Interactive Learning by Questions (LbQ) tasks
- Reading and comprehension activities
- Retrieval practice and knowledge quizzes

The exact balance of approaches will vary according to the age of pupils and the curriculum content being taught.

Engagement and Feedback
What are your expectations for my child's engagement and the support that we as parents and carers should provide?
We expect pupils to:
· Engage with learning daily
- Complete assigned work to the best of their ability
- Submit work through Showbie within the timescales given
- Participate in any online activities provided by teachers
- Read regularly
Parents and carers can support by:
- Encouraging a daily learning routine
- Providing a suitable space for learning where possible
- Supporting younger children to access assignments
- Monitoring engagement and completion of work
- Contacting school if difficulties arise
We recognise that every family's circumstances are different and will work collaboratively to overcome any barriers to participation.
How will you check whether my child is engaging with their work and how will I be informed if there are concerns?
Teachers regularly monitor engagement through Showbie and LbQ.
This includes:
- Reviewing assignment completion
- Monitoring online participation
- Tracking responses to tasks and assessments
- Identifying pupils who may not be engaging consistently
If concerns arise:
1. Teachers will contact parents/carers directly.2. Additional support may be offered.
3. School leaders may become involved where engagement remains a concern.
4. Individual plans may be agreed to support participation.
Our aim is always to work positively with families to ensure children remain connected to learning.
How will you assess my child's work and progress?
Teachers use a range of approaches to assess learning remotely, including:
- Feedback via Showbie
- Assessment tasks submitted online
- Learning by Questions performance data
- Online quizzes and retrieval tasks
- Self-assessment and peer-assessment activities where appropriate
- Teacher review of uploaded work
Feedback may be provided through:
- Written comments
- Voice notes
- Whole-class feedback

Teachers will provide regular feedback that helps pupils understand what they have done well and what they need to do next.
Additional Support for Pupils with Particular Needs
How will you work with me to help my child who needs additional support from adults at home?
We recognise that some pupils with additional needs may require tailored approaches to remote learning.
Support may include:
- Adapted learning activities
- Differentiated assignments
- Additional teacher or teaching assistant contact
- Smaller, manageable learning tasks
- Individual support plans
- Regular communication with parents and carers
- Targeted intervention materials where appropriate
Our SEND team will work closely with families to ensure pupils can access learning successfully and maintain progress.
For younger pupils, teachers will provide practical and age-appropriate activities alongside guidance for parents to support learning at home.
Remote Education for Self-Isolating Pupils
If my child is not in school because they are self-isolating, how will their remote education differ from the approaches described above?
Where an individual pupil is unable to attend school but the rest of their class remains in school, learning will generally be provided through Showbie and LbQ.
Teachers will:
- Upload lesson materials and assignments linked to class learning
- Provide appropriate resources and guidance
- Continue to monitor completed work
- Provide feedback on submitted tasks
This approach ensures that self-isolating pupils remain aligned with the curriculum being taught in school and can successfully reintegrate upon their return.
