Understanding the World Through Picture News
Each week, pupils take part in Picture News assemblies and classroom discussions, exploring current events and important issues from around the world in an age-appropriate way.
Picture News helps pupils to:
- Understand local, national and global events
- Develop critical thinking skills
- Consider different perspectives respectfully
- Build confidence in expressing opinions
- Explore moral, social and cultural issues
- Develop an understanding of British Values
- Learn about equality, diversity and protected characteristics
- Become informed and responsible citizens
These discussions encourage curiosity about the wider world while helping pupils understand how events and issues can affect individuals, communities and society. Through thoughtful debate and reflection, children learn how to listen respectfully, challenge ideas appropriately and form informed opinions.
